Dictatorship then and now

Sorry for the slow updates -- nothing newsworthy currently, so I'm just posting an old cartoon I made in 1986. The context of this cartoon was Ferdinand Marcos (in exile in Hawaii) was quoted to have described the Aquino regime as a "plain and simple dictatorship".

As a side note, I am peeved by young, post-martial law militants who say martial law under Marcos is more desirable than what we have now. Excuse ME!!! At least now we don't have to suffer Rustan's playing "DAHIL SAYO" whenever Imelda Marcos was in their premises shopping for shoes (which I experienced at least three times as a kid). If you're a twenty-something, anti-PGMA, holier-than-thou, "why-the-hell-are-the-rest-of-you-not-protesting-in-the-streets" kind of person and you say that sort of thing... well, HINDI TAYO BATI!

Back then it was a real dictatorship. Today it's just plain pakapalan ng mukha.

Gloria Labandera

I used to think "Gloria Labandera" was just a catchy protest song (or a pang-masa name for the government rolling stores). More on this matter in this PCIJ blog entry.

Bloody Thursday

This is a little late, but I had a really bad cold and it's hard to be funny when you're miserable.

If Dominik Diamond were rated as a gem, here's how it will go:

CARAT: Too small to measure
CUT: inferior
Z (yellow)

But let's not be so hard on that guy. I heard there was a valid reason he chickened out.

Attacks on coalition troops down

March 2005 was supposed to have been the lowest number of attacks on coalition (coalition?) troops in Iraq since February 2004.

The glass is half-full (a.k.a. bad news is good)

The crime rate in Metro Manila is up 18% from last year. The metro police chief says it's because more people are growing to trust the police and so are reporting more incidents than before. I guess the solution to the growing crime rate is simple then:

President Satur Ocampo

I promised to be an equal opportunity satirist, but it's been difficult since a lot of the other personalities have not been generating headlines (except maybe for Jinggoy Estrada's fainting spell, which is too easy a target).

Enter Satur Ocampo -- since you really can't generate much news living in your office, I figured I'd make one up.

...or Holding Hands While Singing the Lord's Prayer.

What's the big deal about Presidents Ramos and Arroyo not holding hands in that mass last Saturday? That's not news! It's just impractical.

Okay so it's a rehash of an earlier joke. But I can't make fun of her intelligence, can I? Which reminds me, I should do one about the Vice President...
